Tips to Choose the Right LED Light Bulbs

The light coming from the LED bulbs is not just the light but it also makes an impact on your mind. If you are aware of how the sunlight works to provide us energy, let's make you know that the light bulbs and fixtures also work the same way. For an instance, bulbs that emit blue light help the brain to produce Serotonin; it keeps you awake, alert and focused. And the bulbs that do not emit blue light, allows the brain to produce melatonin; it makes you relaxed and helps in having good sleep.

However, in addition to the effects on the brain, there are many other factors that would guide you to choose the right LED bulbs. Here we are mentioning those factors and some tips that would let you make the right choice for the LED bulbs.

  • It's Lumens, not watts that you need to focus on

Yeah, you have read it right. Forget about the incandescent light bulbs while buying LEDs.
If you have a belief that wattage is an indication of the brightness, let's make you know that it is true in the case of incandescents only; when it comes to LED, watts aren't a good predictor that how bright the bulb will be.

That's the reason you need to focus on Lumens, not Watts. Incandescents draw more watts than LEDs; focusing on them would be the wrong idea. You can directly get the sense of brightness from the lumens.
  • Get to know about the colors
Unlike incandescent, LEDs offer a wide range of colors for light. From purple to red and from a spectrum of whites to yellows, there is a lot you can make choice from. However, the most common colors that are available for LEDs are soft white, warm white and bright white. The bulbs labeled as warm or soft white delivers a yellow hue while those labeled as bright white, produce a white light that is much similar to daylight.
The light color is measured in kelvins and for incandescents, it is 2700-3500K. You must check the temperature of the light in order to choose the right color.
  • Don't expect to save
LEDs are expensive than incandescents; so, you should not expect to save money while buying them. Instead, you would need to spend more. However, you don't need to worry about it; if LEDs are expensive, they are going to pay off as they have a longer lifespan and they produce less heat. Also, as LEDs draw fewer watts, you are going to save on your electricity bills in the case you are replacing all the incandescents with LED bulbs.
  • Either look for the non-dimmable LEDs or consider replacing the dimmers too
Either look for the non-dimmable LEDs or consider replacing the dimmers too
The main reason behind avoiding the dimmable LEDs is that the traditional dimming switches do not work well with the LEDs. So, it would be better to avoid dimmable LEDs. And in the case, you are interested in dimmable LEDs, either you can consider replacing the dimming switches too or should find the LED bulbs that are compatible with the traditional dimming switches.

If you are planning to switch from incandescent to LED lighting bulbs, you need to understand their difference first. Along with understanding the difference, you must keep the above-given tips in mind while buying the LED bulbs in order to make sure that you are making a worthy purchase.
